<p>Instead of looking at each symptom of an illness separately, osteopathic medicine is a kind of medicine that looks at your entire body to figure out the best method of treatment.  Osteopathic medicine has become quite popular, especially for people who have problems with muscle and joint pain.  A lot of people insist that when you suffer from neck pain, an osteopath is one of your best resources.  It is understandable, however, that if you haven&#8217;t ever visited an osteopath, that doing so might feel scary.  Don&#8217;t worry-you have nothing to be scared of.  Here is what you can expect to experience when you visit an osteopath for neck pain treatment:</p>
<p>In the beginning, your osteopathic exam will probably feel a lot like a visit to a traditional doctor&#8217;s office.  You&#8217;ll be asked for your complete medical history and be given a routine physical exam.  Your osteopath might then need to do some extra tests in order to help figure out the exact reason for your neck pain.  An X-Ray might be taken to help determine if your neck has any damaged vertebrae, but be prepared: your osteopath will probably examine the rest of your body too!</p>
<p>It is important to know that when you visit an osteopath for help with your neck pain, you should leave your &#8220;personal space&#8221; at home.  Osteopathic treatment is hands on! </p>
<p>The osteopath you visit can use any or all of the following methods to treat your neck pain:</p>
<p>Counterstrain technique:  this technique involves moving you into a position that will help your body restore motion to any of your muscles that might have been strained or restrained.</p>
<p>Muscle Energy technique:  your osteopath will give you specific exercises in which you will use your muscles from a specific position and move them in specific directions.</p>
<p>Soft Tissue technique:  this technique involves your osteopath putting pressure on the muscles that are near and around your spine.  Sometimes the pressure is deep, other times it involves traction or rhythmic stretching.</p>
<p>Thrust technique:  your osteopath will use high velocity force to reintroduce movement to your joints or to get rid of any signs of muscle asymmetry, restricted movement, muscle tenderness or tissue changes.</p>
<p>In some cases, osteopaths will also use low level lasers or acupuncture to treat their patients.</p>
<p>This might sound very scary but don&#8217;t worry-most people don&#8217;t experience any pain when they visit their osteopath for neck pain treatment.  In fact, most people who visit osteopaths find their treatments to be relaxing and pleasant! </p>
<p>There are some people who might confuse osteopathic medicine with chiropractic medicine.  The two night sound alike, but they are actually very different.  Chiropractic medicine focuses on your spine and joints.  Osteopathic medicine focus on your whole body!</p>

<p>Although necessary for our bodies to function properly, many people worry about high cholesterol levels and the effect it may have their health. Our bodies produce both &#8220;good&#8221; (HDL) and &#8220;bad&#8221;(LDL) cholesterol. For proper health, the goal is to increase levels of &#8220;good&#8221; cholesterol and reduce our levels of &#8220;bad&#8221; cholesterol. Both of these goals can be accomplished by utilizing a low carb cholesterol diet.</p>
<p>The mechanics of the low carb cholesterol diet are simple.  This type of diet works by reducing or completely cutting out fat- and sugar-laden foods.  When sugar and insulin levels rise, body fat also rises.  The triggering factor behind this rise is excess carbohydrates, found in sugars and starches.  Too much sugar and body fat can lead to other health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.</p>
<p>Cholesterol is present in a number of foods, especially those containing saturated or trans-fats. A low carb cholesterol diet that reduces sweets and saturated and trans-fats will result in a lowering of both body fat and bad cholesterol levels.  Most overweight patients have elevated cholesterol levels and would benefit from implementing a low carb low cholesterol diet.</p>
<p>By considerably decreasing the body&#8217;s insulin level, low carb cholesterol diet foods trigger the use of excess fat and sugars already available in your body. This will consequently cause you to lose weight at a much faster rate than possible with ordinary diets.</p>
<p>If you decide to try a low carb cholesterol diet, you should know that you can eat almost anything, provided you stick with foods that are low in carbohydrates and sugars. You should do a little research into finding out what foods contain high levels of carbs and cholesterol and you&#8217;ll be better prepared to avoid them or replace them with healthier options.</p>

<p>Cervical radiculopathy is a pain syndrome involving one of the cervical nerve roots, with the C7 root (60%) and the C6 root (25%) being the most commonly involved. In younger persons this is due a direct injury which compromises the nerve exit or due to an acute disc prolapse. In older age groups this syndrome can also occur, but in this case is due to narrowing of the nerve exit by arthritic joints and ligament enlargement, disc bulging and bony outgrowths. Cervical nerve root pain referred to physiotherapists for the management of neck pain and arm pain.</p>
<p>Risk factors for this type of neck pain and arm pain include smoking, lifting heavy weights regularly (e.g. 12kg, 25 pounds) and driving or operating vibrating equipment. Overall cervical radiculopathy is uncommon and much more so than lumbar disc syndromes such as sciatica. The discs between the vertebrae from C2 to C7 transmit loads down through the spine and dissipate some of the forces applied to it. At the side of the vertebrae are the nerve exits or foramina and the nerve takes up to a third of the exit space normally. Degenerative changes in any of the structures which surround and form the walls of the exit can compromise the exit channel itself and compress the nerve.</p>
<p>Cervical radiculopathy can occur for a variety of reasons while sometimes there is no obvious precipitating factor that can be found. A sudden extension, side bending and rotation, e.g. in sport or  trauma, could close down the exit gap quickly and squeeze the nerve, injuring it. Sudden flexion or extension with a side bend away from the affected side could pull the nerve strongly, again injuring it and causing symptoms. Disc prolapses can occur with a sudden load on the neck in any position, and in older people sustained or repetitive extension and rotation may cause the osteophytes to contact the nerve, with similar results to the previous events but with a slower onset.</p>
<p>The onset of cervical radiculopathy can be insidious without obvious cause or after an incident. During sport or trauma like a fall the neck can be extended back, bent to one side and rotated, suddenly narrowing the exit for the nerve and compressing it, causing an injury. Or a sudden bend to the opposite side with either cervical flexion or extension can traction the nerve on the one side with consequent injury again. If there is a sudden load on the cervical spine, in any position, it&#8217;s possible for a disc prolapse to occur. If there are osteophytes present in an older person, sustaining or repeating extension with rotation may cause nerve irritation with a slower onset.</p>
<p>People with root pain look tired due to poor sleep, don&#8217;t find anything funny and guard their arm in a protective posture against the abdomen or hold it out to the side with their hand on the back of their neck or the other side of the head. This may reduce the forces through the inflamed nerve root and so reduce pain.</p>
<p>A postural abnormality is often present with the neck held side flexed or rotated away from the painful side. Examination by the physiotherapist includes recording any muscle spasm, checking reflexes, sensibility and muscle power, any combined movements which might aggravate the pain and any easing factors such as manual traction. Acupuncture and cervical epidural injections of steroids may be useful if physiotherapy cannot reduce the pain sufficiently.</p>
<p>Initial management is to reduce the inflammation and pain and physiotherapists use cold therapy, anti-inflammatories, manual traction, mechanical traction and instruction to avoid activities or postures which are worsening. The physio reduces the forces applied to the nerve root area with a collar for day or night use to support the neck and limit the available neck movements and with careful manual tractioning to relax muscle spasm and allow the pain to settle.</p>
<p>Reducing the pain and inflammation is the first goal of treatment and the physiotherapist can employ analgesics such as NSAIDs, cryotherapy, mechanical or manual traction and avoidance of aggravating activities and postures. Limiting the forces transmitted through the nerve root is an overall goal of management, using a collar to reduce neck movement, a cervical pillow or collar at night and manual traction from the physio to distract the joints. After the acute phase has settled physiotherapy concentrates on regaining neck movement and muscle power, starting with isometric exercises and moving on to isotonic and exercises for multiple muscle groups. Long term adherence to a regime of aerobic exercise, muscle strengthening and stretching may be useful.</p>

<p>Avoid fried meat, eat only grilled or boiled meat like steak and chicken  Use a some lemon juice to make it even better.</p>
<p>Give up the soda. If you consume a soda or two every day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop completely, cut back at first and drink water instead|Stop drinking soda.  Those are empty calories so cut back and substitute water.  (Note that the average person adds 90,000 calories a year from sipping juice or soda.  WOW!  That&#8217;s a great tip.)</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t buy junk food.  Shop according to a list.  If you don&#8217;t have junk food at home you won&#8217;t eat it.</p>
<p>Give yourself a treat.  When you can&#8217;t eat something you end up craving it more, and eventually binging.  Enjoy a treat once a week, or even once a day in smaller quantities.  Don&#8217;t go crazy, remember the rule of moderation.</p>
<p>Trick yourself into being satisfied with less by eating off a smaller plate.  (Not only are you tricking yourself, even if the trick doesn&#8217;t work it&#8217;s easier to stop eating when the plate is finished and there&#8217;s no more food to eat.)</p>
<p>Rob a bank and get caught.  They serve a balanced diet in prison.  (Um, no.  That&#8217;s a bad idea.)</p>
<p>A way to ensure you gain more weight is to try all those quick diets then ping-pong back the other way when they&#8217;re done.  Don&#8217;t do it.</p>
<p>Do exercise many times a day.  If you&#8217;re watching television, do some push ups or crunches.  (That&#8217;s a great idea to increase caloric burn.)</p>
<p>Measure your food.  If you have junk food remember to measure and control the portion.  (Portion control is a big part of a healthy diet.  Most restaurants and even people at home serve portions that are too large.)</p>
<p>Step in front of a moving train.  You&#8217;ll wake up from the coma a slimmer you.  (Another bad idea.  It&#8217;s best to stick to ways to lose weight while remaining healthy.  After all, the ultimate goal is better health.)</p>
<p>Stick to something long enough to repeat it a few times, then you can coast.  (It&#8217;s said that if we repeat a thing 21 times it becomes a habit.  Sometimes the number is different, but the idea is the same.  Will power is only needed to repeat something enough times for it to become|turn into a habit.)</p>
<p>Eat slower.  The body doesn&#8217;t feel full as fast as you can eat, so people tend to eat beyond full.</p>
<p>These are all great tips from regular people just like us.  Most of them also happen to be common advice given by experts in safe weight loss.  So ways to lose weight fast do exist, and they&#8217;re not something only doctors can know.</p>

A person with type II diabetic who decrease fat to about 10% of total calories in daily meal could reduce blood sugar to a normal level within 8 weeks. Many of them eventually could get off diabetic medication totally.</p>

<p>This can be difficult for many people, especially if its the second time around.  You&#8217;ll go through a milder form of withdrawals as that familiar edgy feeling comes back.  You&#8217;re never prepared for that second wave of withdrawal and frequently have a hard time stopping the nicotine replacement therapy.  Those that are able to move on are closer to becoming smoke free.</p>
<p>There are several types of nicotine replacement therapy; the most common option used is the patch. Normally you start with a higher dose and gradually work your way down over a 6 to 12 week timeframe. One of the things that should be noted, is the amount of nicotine delivered over the 24 hours is often too much for the body to handle and side effects are very common.</p>
<p>The feeling of nausea and breaking out in a cold sweat is one of the side effects associated with using the patch.  Often, this is an indication that the dose of the patch you are wearing is too high for your system and you can either try a lower dose patch the next day or it might be wise if you to look into a different form of nicotine replacement therapy. You will experience some type of secondary withdrawal symptoms when you wean yourself off of them, but it&#8217;s worth it when you know that in the end you can be smoke free.</p>
<p>The nicotine inhaler is also a good method for those that need to have something in their hand, which is a common problem among smokers. Again you receive low doses of nicotine, which you inhale through this device that assists you in overcoming you&#8217;re cravings. And although I have personally not tried this I&#8217;ve spoken to several people who have found this to be really helpful.</p>
<p>There are nicotine replacement options available without a prescription and readily accessible at any corner drugstore or supermarket.  You will still have to expect to pay quite a bit for over the counter therapy.  But many of the products provide online support and forums, which help keep you in touch with other people who are trying to quit smoking.</p>
<p>The side effects of nicotine replacement therapy can vary from insomnia to headache to nausea, diarrhea, or constipation.  Some of these side effects can be temporary, but if they are too much for you, you should consider lowering your dosage or changing to another form of nicotine replacement therapy.  You might also want to try a non-nicotine based medication.</p>
